I have been looking for a deep conditioner with no protein as my hair does not need protein at the moment.

I went to Zara because it is the only  “normal” high street hair shop that I have been to where the staff know what they are talking about.

Actually there’s only one member of staff in there who knows anything about Black Hair (African/Caribbean hair) his name is Ali and he has done his research and is quite knowledgeable about our hair.

Ordinarily in London most of the high street shops that sell hair and beauty products specifically for our skin and hair types, are run by people who are not of our skin and hair type, this is not prejudice it is simply a fact.

The problem this poses for a lot of Sisters is that we are going to these shops looking for products and the sales assistants have no idea what is good for our hair and how to advise us if we have a specific hair/beauty issue. In fact some of the items that are being sold in these stores are very dangerous and can cause serious chemical burns, hyperpigmentation and PERMANENT hairloss.

Many a time in the past I have been in one of these shops and asked the sales assistant a specific question only to be told “this one is very good” even if I’ve asked for a shampoo for dry hair they have picked up any random bottle and told me “this one is very good”

I found this so frustrating that I decided to stop going in those shops all together and buy my hair and beauty products online or from Sisters doing it for themselves (and all of us) like Annette from Almocado, Sharron from Shea Decadence and Akua from Shea Butter Cottage.

However I will still try other products mainly because I am a bit of a PJ (product junkie) and so that I can do product reviews on this blog and hopefully help some natural newbies.

I can’t understand the logic in going and buying a specialist product from people who have NEVER used said product! It’s like going to a vegetarian butcher! It nuh mek no sense!

However if someone has never used the product/s but they take the time to do their research and seek feedback from their customers then they can actually be of some help, so big up to Ali from Zara Cosmetics on Walworth Road.

Back to the product now…. This product was expensive for such a small tub, it has a light and fresh coconut scent which was ok, not too sweet. The consistency is quite thick but nice and creamy, I used the product on damp hair and smoothed it in with my fingers before finger detangling.

This product does not have enough slip for me, I know it’s all natural with no silicones but seriously the lack of slip was too much for me, I get more slip from Tresemme Naturals silicone free conditioner. I put a shower cap on and then a warm towel and left the conditioner on for 3 hours, I didn’t intend to leave it on for so long but I had to bake a cake so I  left it on until I was finished.

The deep conditioner rinsed out easily but afterwards my hair did not feel soft and moisturised it wasn’t hard either, but for SIXTEEN NINETY-NINE! I expect better than “not hard” I want my hair to feel like angels have personally conditioned my hair with heavenly Ambrosia!

I would not buy this again and I have not used the tub I have again either. I’m most likely going to give it away. I was really disappointed in this product I was expecting a really good result because it has natural ingredients and no protein.

That just goes to show that “natural” ingredients are not always  a guarantee for fantastic results, it’s trial and error really.

I would advise that you do your own personal reviews when you try products so that you have a record of what you liked, what you didn’t like and why. You don’t have to write a long detailed review you can just rate them out of 5 for specific criteria such as, smell, price, slip, consistency etc.

Just because this product did not work for my hair, that does not mean it won’t work for your hair.

Thanks for reading  xSx
